Please consider getting an RSS feed for this blog and also I would love to eventually contribute but I am a fairly new young member of Kiwanis. Del City, OK.

Thanks for the suggestion about the RSS feeds.

Regardless of how new you are to Kiwanis, I'd be interested in talking about the blogging opportunities with you.  We're not looking for someone with all the answers.  Just someone who can be actively involved to keep the conversation interesting.

you may want to consider adding those that have held a position or have had leadership responsibility in a club to also participate and provide ideas that worked for them

I am about to become President and I am looking for ideas to start my progam out with instead of a quote for the week.  What are other clubs doing?

Rosemary,

Absolutely.  While the different communities are intended to provide the coaching and answers that current leaders are facing, the answers and coaching will likely come from leaders who have already been in that position and have a working knowledge of the issue.  All club positions will have an "open membership" which means that anyone can join and participate.

Leaders providing that kind of support will be critical to the success and value of the site.

Lori,

Well, I'm only familiar with the clubs in my area and some do use quotes in lieu of a prayer or moment of silence.

If you're looking for leadership and motivational quotes, there are a few options.

1.  Kiwanisleader.org will have a refreshed look in the next 30 days and a rotating leadership quote will be on that site.

2. Steve Siemens, a past international president and motivational speaker by trade, has recently published a book of inspiring quotes.  I happen to have an extra copy on my desk.  Send me an e-mail (msperr@kiwanis.org) with your mailing address and phone number, and we'll mail it to you.

Other readers may have insight as to what clubs are doing in their area.  Hopefully they will respond here as well.

I'm with Kiwanis since 1991, chair of several committees, been on the Board several years and am now taking on being the chair of the Membership Committee.  Our club is stale, stagnate and in need of a boost.  I want to make this a fabulous year here in Niagara, Canada (yes - we just put on the "Great in '08" wonderful Eatern Canada and Caribbean convention").  Anyway, I would love to be part of a group of people who are interested in reviving their clubs and offering positive suggestions to realize the Million Member mark with me.  Bonnie Hall, A Proud Kiwanian, Kiwanis Club of St. Catharines Inc. I enjoy reading the blogs on here.  I am secretary of a 92 year old club which has some very long-time members.  We are stuck in a rut as far as our meeting traditions, etc. We've been working on change for several years and just starting to make some progress.  Would love the opportunity to share and receive ideas on making the meetings more fun and attracting young new members.

Also, where can I get a copy of Steve's book?  I have heard him speak several times (he visited our club while he was president) and I think he is great - really makes you proud to be a Kiwanian.

I am beginning my service as secretary.  We are looking at adding a little more excitement to our club.  We sort of fell into a pattern of same-old same-old from one year to the next.  I'd love to hear how others are shaking things up!

I am very new to thi Blogger Stuff. I am a seven year Kiwanian , Disinguished Past Preident of my Club and Lt. Governor of my Division for 2008-2009.  It is ineresting to hear a members like Nathan who says he is a new young  member.  Bring it on!!!  Kiwanis is shrinking like all service organizations and what we need is new and interesting ideas. We cannot afford to remain "Your Grandfather's Kiwanis club" and expect to survive.  Look outside of the box and try new things. One of the weaknesses I find in our local clubs is the "This the way we have always Done it Syndrome."  Ask any older member(over 60), God Love them, and they will tell you how you have to do it.

I write a Blog regularly for my Division Officers and would love to share some of my ideas.  Caution: I DO NOT HAVE THE ANSWERS...I AM SEARCHING.  By the way I am almost 62 years old. I woud Love to Share my Blog: kiwanisdivision2stuff.garykiwanis.com

I would love to help - just moved from President back to Secretary (missed the seat when someone left).

This might be a fun list-serve that people could subscribe to - let members ask questions and use everyone's input for ideas.

Thanks for much for showing an interest in blogging!  We are looking for people with questions and not necessarily all the answers so this is perfect.

I've added all of you to the list and will be tracking down your e-mail address so that I can send you information about getting into the community site to begin the conversations.

Stay tuned for an e-mail from me.

Michelle,

I'm also a new member in Santa Barbara and was recently voted on to the board of directors. I recently attended a Kiwanis work shop in Studio City and wrote a report on it to our club members. Being so new I just wrote down lots of suggestions from other members on things that are working and I'll send it along to you.

I have been asked to take on a couple porgrams that I would love to ask other members about ,befoe charging off on them.

Joe,

I would love to see the list that you've accumulated.

We have created a "Share Your Stories" forum that has specific categories like Fundraising, Service, etc.  Take a look at those options and let me know if this is (or is not) ideal for getting insight from other members on your programs.

I'll keep an eye on the Share Your Stories to see that list or you can send it to me at msperr@kiwanis.org.  Thx!

Michelle
