For many of us, January is a time of resolutions; well-intentioned plans that often go unfulfilled. As Kiwanians, we need to make some resolutions, too, but ours are too important to ignore or abandon. For if we let go, a child goes hungry or helpless or, worse, hopeless.
My resolutions are simple: I will attend every meeting I can, in my home club and when I am on the road meeting with my Kiwanis colleagues or meeting with partners and others as international president. I will be an active member, sharing more than just my time with my club. I will set an example, living the objects and mission of Kiwanis. I will tell our story, sharing the wonderful things that we—that you—do. I will invite friends, associates and strangers, too, to meetings.
What will your resolutions be? Will they be the usual “lose weight,” “exercise more,” resolutions, or will you be resolute in your Kiwanis promise to help a child? Get involved, give to the foundation, bring a guest to a meeting, engage your community, spread the word … offer a hand to a child.
Those are real Kiwanis resolutions.
