LAKE WALES, Florida – Kiwanis International recently held its 93rd International Convention in Orlando. About 2,100 clubs were represented, and 5,000 people attended from 72 nations. Large contingencies attended from countries such as Malaysia and Taiwan.
The Lake Wales Kiwanis club was well represented at the convention.
Past President Cynthia C. Rignanese said before the event, "I was thrilled to learn that this International Convention was only an hour away! This will be my sixth International Kiwanis Convention, and I once went 10,000 miles to Taiwan for one. It is such a wonderful opportunity to have the convention so close."
In addition to Rignanese, attending the convention from Lake Wales were Dr. T.J. McKeon, Kiwanis (club) president-elect and convention delegate; Deanna Spence, Kiwanis secretary and delegate; and *** Nathans, Kiwanis vice president.
Attendees heard nationally recognized speakers discuss topics such as membership drives, membership retention, insurance coverage via the international organization and leadership training. In addition to Kiwanis-related topics, several "fun" opportunities included a hands-on photography class and performances by top-name entertainers, such as comedian Bob Newhart.
The Lake Wales Kiwanis club meets at noon on Thursdays. The group of 45 business people currently is conducting a membership drive. For details, contact McKeon at 863-679-5276 or Rignanese at 863-294-1114.
