HOLLY SPRINGS, NORTH CAROLINA – “It can't get any better than this,” said Linda Hunt Williams, Kiwanian and founder of Kids Appreciation Day. “Although there was rain all around us, there were beautiful mostly sunny blue skies over Womble Park for the entire event for the seventh year in a row. What a day!”

As the day began, there were worries about the weather, but the Kiwanians were optimistic that the Williams' adage “it never rains on Kids Appreciation Day in Holly Springs” would hold. It didn't rain.

Yes, Holly Springs' kids had their day in the sun and came they did to enjoy F & M Entertainment rides, Pelican SnoBalls, NY Pizza and all the 30 plus vendors who donated their time and money to make the event a success. Close to 40 raffle items were donated to the Kiwanis Community Raffle by the event supporters and vendors.

The kids really got energized at the end of program as Mayor Sears and Kiwanis President Brian Adornetto tossed bags of cotton candy donated by Pelicans SnoBalls to the kids.

“The kids were thrilled over the raffle items and the cotton candy throw,” said Adornetto. “The joy on their faces made the day. Everyone just had a lot of fun.”

Some of the popular items included an autographed Carolina Panthers Football, an autographed Carolina Hurricanes Hockey Puck, and an autographed UNC-Chapel Hill National Champion Basketball team to name a few.

Other program highlights included the U. S. Marine Corps Color Guard, Primrose School at West Lake's students saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Holly Springs School of Dance performers.

Kids Appreciation Day was also sponsored by the Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department; F & M Entertainment; Holly Springs Masonic Lodge; NY Pizza; InsideHollySprings.com; Progress Energy; PSNC Energy; Rex Pediatrics of Cary; and Sukeena Law Firm, P.C.

Kids Appreciation Day is Holly Springs Kiwanis Club's spring fundraiser for the Holly Springs Kiwanis Youth Foundation. The purpose is to celebrate the end of the school year and to recognize children who have achieved at school during the year.
