Pensacola, Florida
Programs for the Aktion Club of Pensacola, Florida, events are planned by the sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs of Big Lagoon, Nine Mile, Pensacola, Warrington and Central who take turns.
The Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon hosted a recent Sock Hop that was attended by 100 Aktion Club members on July 9, 2009 at Cokesbury Methodist Church. Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon members that cooked hot dogs, and hosted the soda bar were Martin and Maggie Haygood, Vete Senkus, Barbara and Grant Erbach, Cathy Lauderbach, Pat McCormick, Joe Wildes and Bill Dubose. The price of admission was a new pair of white socks that will be sent to a local nursing home.
The Sock Hop began with a prayer, Pledge of Allegiance and singing of “God Bless America” and then the fun began.
Good job, Kiwanians! Once again, you have made a difference in the lives of the children of Northwest Florida as you carry out the Kiwanis dream to change the world one child and one community at a time.
The Aktion Club meeting concluded with a rousing singing of the Aktion Club Song. Written by Big Lagoon-Pensacola Kiwanis former club president and Aktion Club board chairman, Joe Wildes; the words proclaim members’ enthusiasm for service;
“We are the folks from Aktion Club
You’ve heard so much about
And good things always happen
Whenever we go out
“We wash the cars, we clean the beach
We even grow the plants
And when we finish with our work
We really love to dance
“Aktion Club! Aktion Club!
Listen to us shout
We do our best to help the rest’
Cause that’s what we’re about.”
