The Hillsboro Kiwanis Club served over 800 people at its annual Pancake Breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at the Congregational Church at Fifth Avenue and Main Street.
The Pancake Breakfast is served annually before the start of the Hillsboro Rotary's Fourth of July Parade. The flapjacks event is the Kiwanis Club's major fundraiser for the year.
A half-hour delay, resulting from an overnight power failure, made club members a little nervous at the start, but the 12 or so early pancake patrons were understanding and waited for the power to be restored by a Portland General Electric lineman. Once the grills were fired up at 6:30 a.m., things went on as normal and people enjoyed the all-you-can-eat flapjacks, link sausage, apple sauce, coffee, orange juice and milk.
The Kiwanis Club wishes to thank all the volunteers who helped at the event. Also much appreciated is the support of each of the major sponsors of the event.
Businesses who contributed financially to the success of the breakfast are: Third Avenue Hair Studio, Accurate Auto, Dale Scheller Enterprises, Gratteri's Les Schwab, Hutchins TV and Appliance, Jordan's Lawnscape and More LLC, Parkway Station Pub, Schmidt and Yee, Scottie's Auto Body, Thayer Optical, Tuality Healthcare, Urban Upholstery LLC, Joe Salta, West Coast Bank and Windermere/Baldwin Properties.
In-kind sponsors, contributing services or goods for the event, were: Dairy Queen of Hillsboro, Hillsboro Pharmacy, West Coast Bank, Alpenrose Dairy, BMS, Boyd's Coffee, Bretthauer Road Oil, Hank's Thriftway, The Sign Company, Hillsboro Garbage, the Washington County Jail and Portland General Electric.
