The Wausau Golden Kiwanis Club will recognize four people who pulled a trapped woman from inside a vehicle as it rolled into the Wisconsin River last year.
Emily Duncanson, Courtney Flanders, John Martinez and Alfred Marrero will receive the Kiwanis International Foundation Medal of Valor, the first time the Wausau club has given the award, said club member Arnie Lang.
The four will receive the commemorative plaque at the club’s Aug. 31 meeting at the American Legion Clubhouse.
Tom and Kathleen Tryber were launching their fishing boat at the Gilbert Park boat landing in Wausau when their sport utility vehicle rolled backward into the river with Kathleen inside. The four rushed to the water and were able to open a door, freeing Kathleen from the sinking vehicle.
The Kiwanis International board approved the award nomination in June, Lange said.
