CAMDEN, MAINE - A major auction to benefit children's programs in Rockland and surrounding area will be held in July 2010 at the Lincoln Street Center (formerly Rockland High School and Junior High). Now in its 10th year, Lincoln Street Center hosts theater programs, visual arts, music and fitness for youth. Scholarships are always made available to those who need support.

The Birdhouse Bonanza Auction and Fundraiser, initiated by John Batty of the Rockland Kiwanis, will begin as a national online auction through BiddingForGood.com. The first artist to submit a birdhouse will be awarded an "early bird" prize and receive publicity for their work.

Those who join this fundraising opportunity will be in good company of local artist, Eric Hopkins, who has committed to creating a birdhouse for the auction.

Participating artists have the option to create an original birdhouse from materials of their choice (e.g. blown glass, lobster buoy, driftwood, seashells, fairy houses, etc.) or purchase a standard birdhouse from the Kiwanis for $10.

A selection of birdhouses will be featured in Main Street storefronts leading up to a live auction at Lincoln Street Center gymnasium on July 24, 2010. Bruce Gamage to preside as Event Auctioneer.
