OMAHA,
NEBRASKA - Volunteers with the Kiwanis Club of Omaha did a lot of packing on
Saturday, all in the name of hungry children.
More
than 80 volunteers spent the afternoon at the Omaha Food Bank at 87th and F,
preparing more than 17,000 meals. The boxes will be shipped to families in need
in Africa's Sierra Leone. The kits contain white rice, soy, a vegetable mix and
a vitamin-mineral combination.
"You
see all the stories on TV when the kids are going hungry and it's needed,
especially in other countries, but also in this country, some places, and we
want to make sure that we can do what we're doing," said Lt. Governor Leo Lang
of the Kiwanis Club District 20.
Eighty
percent of the kits will go to Sierra Leone and 10 percent will remain at the
Omaha Food Bank. The other 10 percent is on standby to send overseas when
needed.
