BULLARD, TEXAS - Members of three major community groups, including the
Bullard Area Kiwanis, Bullard High School Key Club and BSA Troop 366, combined
efforts on Tuesday, May 11, to construct an Outdoor Learning Center for the
Bullard ISD Primary School's Head Start students.
More than
40 young people and adults worked for three hours after school on the project,
which was planned and organized by the Kiwanis club. Tasks included the
construction of picnic tables, activity tables and various climbing apparatus.
The
learning center is part of a Head Start program which encourages students to
become more active outdoors while combining play time with learning time.
"This is a
great opportunity for these kids to get outside and stay active while learning
about the environment around them," said Susan Taylor, Head Start coordinator.
"This is one of the big goals of the Head Start program."
While
this seems like a small project, in the long run, the amount that it will
benefit the students of Bullard Primary is large and very rewarding, organizers
said, and added, all of the organizations involved were happy to help, and all
volunteers worked with a smile. This was a great and wonderful all around
project that got many key community organizations involved.
