WESTMINSTER, MARYLAND—Westminster police are using a three-wheel, scooter-like electric vehicle they hope will increase officers' visibility.

The T-3 was unveiled on Thursday. The $9,000 vehicle was paid with seized drug money and a donation from the Kiwanis Club of Greater Westminster.

Police Chief Jeff Spaulding says the T-3 will be used in patrols downtown, in parks, and with large community events. The chief hopes the vehicle, in addition to foot and bicycle patrols, will foster relationships with the community.

Spaulding says the T-3 allows officers to be more accessible to the community than riding in a police car.

The vehicle can go about 25 miles before its batteries need to be recharged, and should last one eight-hour shift.
