ST. JOHN'S, ANTIGUA—The Kiwanis Club of St John’s Antigua, whose motto is “Serving the Children of the World,” held its first ever Parenting Fair on Saturday April 19 at the Greenbay Primary School.
The Kiwanians believe that proper child development is fundamental for children to grow up healthy, both physically and mentally; hence, they seek to help solve some of the uncertainties faced by parents, by educating them about support sources for effective child-rearing.
At the Kiwanis Parenting Fair, several information desks were set up, to include areas of Nutrition, Home Budgeting, Dental, and Backyard Gardening.
Representatives from the Citizens Welfare and Drug Prevention Division also made their contribution.
Additional areas of focus included a Children’s Corner, where the children had a movie hour, and reading and storytelling sessions. A special Kiwanis desk filled with books and toys donated to the Club by Children’s Chance USA were made available to the parents and children who attended.
President Noel Browne and Community Services Chairperson Hollis Francis Jr both thought that the Parenting Fair was well received by the Greenbay community, and thanked the principal, teachers, and students of the Greenbay Primary School for their support.
The Kiwanis Club of St John’s plans to make the Parenting Fair an annual event, primarily geared toward giving parents an opportunity to learn about and receive information that will help them raise healthy, safe, and happy children.
"The Kiwanis Club of St. John's Antigua wishes to thank AS Bryden & Sons, Anjo Wholesale, and Frank B. Armstrong, for sponsoring the giveaways."
