Say hello to your new CKI Web site and online magazine! – This Web site was created in an effort to give CKI members fresh stories, a bold new look, and a chance to interact with the organization and each other. The site is a work in progress. Please be patient while we update the site to provide you with better resources!

Here’s a quick look at a few of the changes:

Features. The megaphone (notice the graphic standards!) now is home to updated features and spotlights about CKI clubs and district events. These features will change frequently, so send us your information and we’ll share your stories.

Updates. This central box will feature the latest news and updates from CKI and the entire Kiwanis family.

In Your Words. Send us a short article about something your club did, and see your name published here. This is a great way to share with everyone the great service your club is providing.

Tip Me. Send us a short, bulleted list of tips on how to stage a great fundraiser, an awesome service project, or other event. Be sure to include who you are and the name of your club.

Service, Leadership, Fellowship. This is the meat of the site. Here you’ll find most of the content from the “old” CKI Web site. Click on each word to find information pertaining to that category.

Want your words and photos published on the new site? Drop us a line with your stories and photos.
Hundreds of CKI members packed the Sheraton Denver Hotel on Tuesday in anticipation of the start of the 53rd Annual Circle K International Convention.

What’s on the agenda?

Service: As of early Tuesday afternoon, more than 55 people already had signed up to donate blood during the Second Annual CKI Blood Drive. That’s a lot of chances to save a life. And all this good doing came right on the heels of a week at the Large Scale Service Project, where CKI members worked hundreds of hours with the Denver Salvation Army and Denver Rescue Mission.

Leadership: Tons of workshops will offer CKI members tips on leadership and service—everything from how to work with service partners to communication and conflict strategy. Delegates also will elect the 2008-09 Board and vote on amendments to the CKI Bylaws during the four-day convention.

Fellowship: CKI and Kiwanis members, along with volunteers and guests, will have a ton of fun during conventions while attending the Service Fair, dances, tailgate parties, and a night on the town.

Catch a glimpse of convention

Whether you made it to this year’s Kiwanis International Convention or you missed it, you can catch a glimpse of the action—or relive it—by checking out these photo slideshows, videos, and forum resources.

If you attended this year’s convention, we want to hear from you!
“Linda was the most incredible woman I have ever known,” Don said of his First Lady. “Her unparalleled commitment to caring and service were an inspiration to everyone who knew her.”

“She was a wonderful mother. She was committed also to her church and her community, and I will miss her more than I can possibly say,” he added. “She put up quite a struggle, but God must have needed her more than we did.”

Kiwanis International President Dave Curry said of Linda: “Linda was a blessing to everyone she came in contact with. She always had a smile and a kind word of encouragement for every person.”

“Linda was always thinking of others,” said Kiwanis International CEO Rob Parker. “On the day before her surgery, Don delivered a large box of homemade treats for the Kiwanis staff that Linda had spent the weekend baking. That was the kind of servant leader she was. She will be missed.”

Linda Gale (Canaday) was a native of North Carolina and a former schoolteacher. She and Don met in Augusta, Georgia when she was teaching middle school and he was stationed at the U.S. Army Signal Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia. The mother of one of Linda’s students was married to a friend of Don’s, who recalls “inviting myself” to the friend’s house so he could meet Linda.

Linda was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and with her husband, was associated with Kiwanis many years.

“One thing I like about Kiwanis is that we don't help just sick children,” she said once in an interview. “You don't have to be poor to be needy. Through programs like BUG and Terrific Kids, we are helping children who otherwise might be overlooked.”

Linda played a vital role in every part of Don’s life but wanted to be sure that the role was complimentary, and that they brought two pairs of hands to every task, not just one.

"Don and I don't have to do everything together,” she said. “He's president, but I'm Linda."

Linda is survived by her husband, six children and 17 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Linda Canaday Scholarship Fund, care of the Kiwanis International Foundation, 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, IN 46268.

New options regarding club elections:
1. Any/All club officers now may serve either one-year or two-year terms, as determined by each club.
2. Clubs now have the option to use electronic balloting methods to elect officers.

To take advantage of either option, clubs first need to amend their bylaws with Kiwanis International. Clubs should begin the process now to revise their bylaws so the proper rules are in place before club elections are held in April/May 2009. Suggested language for club bylaw revisions will be posted soon on KiwanisOne.org.

If a club decides to not take advantage of either option, no bylaw revisions are needed.
However, now is a great time to take a look at your club’s bylaws.
