No Seats Available

After spending the past few days in New York City, I was looking forward to going home to Indianapolis.  Although my flight was not scheduled to leave until 5:00PM, I arrived at 7:30AM hoping to be able to fly stand-by on an earlier flight.  Over the next 10 hours I watched four different flights leave for Indianapolis, with no open seats for me.  Each time this happened, the person working the counter closed the jetway door and said "Sorry sir, there are no seats available.  Please try another flight."  Although I knew it was not personal, it didn't feel good to be told that there was no room for me. I sure hope our Kiwanis Family never reaches the point where there isn't room for at least one more. Our K-Kids and Builders and Key Club and CKI should always be able to say yes to every young person who wants to join.  In the same way our Classic Kiwanis clubs should always have room for one more member...never leaving out anyone who wants to help. With all of that said, I look forward to the day when Kiwanis is growing at such an amazing rate that there is "standing room only" at our meetings and events, as long as there is room for at least one more.

Rob your comments are to the point, however we're remiss in not including our Aktion Clubs in your list of SLP's which should always have room for one more. I have found since we chartered our Aktion Club that in our over ten years for my husband and seven years for me in Kiwanis, that the Aktion Club has provided some of the most rewarding experiences for us in all that time. Let's remember that they are also a vital SLP and part of our Kiwanis Family. Let's Take Action with Aktion to meet the needs of our communities!

Ellen,

You are so, so right.  Aktion Clubs are amazing. I think you are really going to enjoy the next Kiwanis Magazine.  Let me know what you think when you get it.

Rob
