Member Input

We have been doing some member surveying recently, which I am anticipating the results from very soon.  I will share the information as soon as I have it.  Since customer feedback is critical for any organization or business that wants to improve and grow, I am interested in hearing how your local Kiwanis club gathers member input.   Do you use written member surveys?  Exit interviews with people who are leaving?  Face to face meetings with people who are "missing in action"?  Open meetings where people are asked for their input?   I am interested in any ideas in this area to include in our "best practices".

Member input is gathered annually in the formal "Club Assessment" found in the Membership Development Guide.  Results are shared with the members followed by a brainstorming session each August.  Members are given an opportunity to "think outside the box"  and suggest ideas for club improvement, fund raising, service projects, membership growth and marketing.  Goals are set for the new Kiwanis year and members volunteer to lead or chair projects of their choice.  The Benicia Club has not experienced any losses in the past year so no exit interviews were required. Face to face meetings with members who have been missing do take place.  Members receive e-mails prior to each Kiwanis meeting and a phone call if missing more than two meetings in a row. We have a very active Membership Committee responsible for Guest Day, Orientation and Induction.

Thanks for asking, Rob, and please advertize this blog in as many places as possible to encourage member participation.

Alice,

Great to hear that the club assessment tool is helpful.  Sounds like things are happening in the Benicia Club.  That is great!  Thanks for your leadership.

Specifically in our club, an internet survey was just conducted about interclubs.  Because of the District Convention in Reno this year, I learned about member input and how to use internet surveys via Surveymonkey.com.  Last year a paper survey was conducted but it was very difficult to rate the data once it was collected.  The internet survey computes the data for you depending on the types of questions asked.  It doesn't take long and is a free service with upgrades.  The downside of the survey is that it is only available to those with internet access.  Some of our members do not have computers.  We will remedy this situation by bringing a lap top to the meeting (also a hotspot) for our next survey.

This month, I will be presenting this to my Division at our next DCM.  An interesting sidenote was that 71% of our members would likely go to an international convention for an interclub.  Great site and thanks for bringing it to my attention.
