Kiwanis is Awesome!

If you have been a part of Kiwanis for any period of time, you know that Kiwanis is awesome.  It is easy to get distracted by systems and processes and other agendas...but the reality is that local Kiwanis members do some amazing things for their communities.  Just today I received a note thanking Kiwanis for making Christmas possible for a number of children who are living in tent cities in California.  These kids who had lost everything just a month ago, were showered with bicycles and toys and clothes and all kinds of things that made this a Christmas they will always remember.  Thanks to the generosity of Kiwanis members (who donated to the Kiwanis International Foundation and the Cal-Nev-Ha District Foundation), and to the Kiwanis members who did the shopping, wrapping and delivery of these items, this turned out to be an awesome Christmas.

Thank you to each of you local heros who make it happen each and every day.  You are awesome and I am humbled to be serving you.

Your words ring true for all of us involved with our "home" club.  The local members are the bedrock of Kiwanis and will continue to create more amazing things, however we must add more members.  The idea of helping kids through Kiwanis service is many times lost by others who are promoting another agenda.  We appreciate your thoughts and efforts to create more emphasis on membership.  "I believe!"

On a windy rainy Saturday 6 smiling members of the Kiwanis Club of Astoria-Warrenton showed up at this, disabled veteran’s home with tools in hand and spent Saturday and Sunday building a ramp for a wheel chair.  The same day that Emil Nyberg was contacted about this need, a woman from Chinook Washington contacted him about donating a new $14,000.00+ electric Wheel chair that had been purchased for her husband that never recovered enough to use it. Before he passed away, he asked his wife not to sell it but to find a disabled veteran that needed it. After completing the ramp, they surprised him with a brand new wheel chair, the look on his face, sitting in his new wheel chair tells the whole story.

We sponsor a Builders Club At Warrenton Grade School!

What awesome Kids! And what an awesome faculty advisor, Kate Grutter!!

They raise funds any way they can.  Garage sales, sponsor a dance and hold a movie night ECT.  What they do with the funds is just fantastic,  they made a 4200.00 donation to a Builders Club in Calif. that was damaged by the wildfires, then the asked all the teachers in their school for 12 names of families that might need help and choose thw 12 poorest ones and went shopping for $50.00 worth of nutrisional groceries, they also made a $1000.00 donation to Dorenbecher Children's Hospital (CMM) for cancer research.

I chanllenge any otheh Builders to top this.
