International Convention

What ideas do you have that would make the International Convention feel more inclusive and welcoming to those from outside the United States. A sampling of current suggestions include:

1. Display the flags of each nation as we have in the past

2. Have a special international welcome area with people who speak every language represented at the convention.  These people would wear name tags that say "I speak Spanish" or German or Chinese etc...

3.  Have speakers from outside the US.

What ideas do you have or what best practices have you experienced?

I have yet to partake of an International, but how about 'A Taste of Kiwanis' those traditional foods that those Kiwanians from other countries embrace as their own ('UnAmericanized')? It would be interesting to share those delicacies they enjoy on a regular basis. Hey, I'll do almost anything once as long as it's legal!

This will be my 10th International Convention.

Make it less expensive.  We promise our younger members leadership training and opportunities and then price everything that they can not attend, such as the District Dinner, and speakers that speak during luncheons

I too look forward to the International Convention, but do agree that the expense is a major factor.  Even with the discount with the Airlines it is just too expensive to take a family and enjoy.  I would like to take my family, but I am leaning toward going by myself, because of the cost of travel.

I like the idea of international flavor. It doesn't have to be food. Maybe a session where we can learn what the clubs (other than US) are doing to positively impact their communities. Get some club presidents, for example, to speak about their projects. Let us have the opportunity to ask a few questions about their style, their enthusiasm, and their hard work.

We read about the US in our great magazine. But, it would be nice to hear from Germany, Hong Kong, and all the other exotic places in the world.

Thanks,
