Life-Changing Impact

This morning I had a chance to hear a Lt. Governor in California share her personal story of contracting polio as a child and the life-changing impact of the March of Dimes.  Their investment in her care and treatment as a child allowed her to not only survive, but to thrive.  The point of her story is how important Kiwanis is to so many people in ways we will never truly understand. Your support of important organizations in your local communities really matters.  Thank you to all of you who are leading and making a difference, one child at a time.

While I was searching for the results of our Kiwanis International IDD project, I discovered the above note by Rob Parker.  I was stunned, for you see, I was that child with polio.

As an incoming Lt. Gov. for Division 24 in CalNevHa, I wanted to use this anology of the huge impact an organized group can make in the life of a single child.  I spoke of my experience with polio, and what the March of Dimes did for me and millions of children in the world.

Most importantly, I wanted to relate my experence to Kiwanis Internationals first world-wide project. Tackling IDD (Iodine Deficiency Disorder) has positively effected the lives of children throughout the world, with over 90 million now born free of mental retardation and physical challenges thanks to simply adding a little Iodine into their salt.

One child, one community at a time, Kiwanis is changing the world.  How very proud I am to be a member
