How are your members doing?

I would be interested in hearing how the economic situation in your country and community is affecting your club and members.  Do you have people who have lost their jobs and are considering dropping out of Kiwanis? Is your club doing anything special or pro-active to support those that are struggling or to make sure people don't leave during this time? (a time when they need Kiwanis the most)  I am interested in any and all thoughts on the subject.

Our membership has been impacted at a personal and club level. A number of the membership have spouses who have lost their jobs, I have received reports of members losing homes. While the Kiwanis family has responded to the needs of those members, the clubs efforts have been impacted negagtively at the fundraising level. Increased efforts have been taken and the typical results have decreased by 1/4 to 1/3. Given the increased community needs , some hard choices are now being made regarding addressing those needs. Some clubs "traditional" projects are being shelved, albeit temporarily as a result of decreased fundraising totals. I have noticed increased membership interest and am optimistic that our increased  usage of media and the 'new' technology that is available to us will address the gloomy negativity of our economy.

Our membership began a project shortly after the International meeting last June to feed children of both our communities as well as on an international basis. We have become a part of the Kids Against Hunger Network and are utilizing the Kiwanis family; youth, Clubs and volunteers to package food for hungry children. Our membership has embraced this project and found it extremely personally rewarding. It has tied our Club more closely to the community in a much more meaningful way and more galvanized the entire Kiwanis family of Clubs in the region in a common cause, feeding hungry children. We invite you to join us in this cause. Thank you.

Our club has been struggling with its membership retention due to monetary obligations of some members who have been affected with the economic crises, however, we have tried to sustain them because of one significant fund raising opportunity which not only bring in an amount( for future club projects) to the club but as well as made an impact to the people and the community who have considered and have cared the Special Children specifically children with Autism. It was made possible through the Philippine Autism Society and an independent film maker who have made a contract with Kiwanis Iligan Bay Club, ASP-Iligan chapter and Societies Fidei(Special Education School) for a documentary film showing with fee to a number of schools in the city. The project did not only advocate Autism and its management but have also promoted the KIWANIS organization.
