Using Google trends

Do you ever find yourself out of the loop when people around you begin to talk about the latest happenings? If so there is another great product from Google Labs. It’s called Google trends and it is a page that lists what people around the country are searching for.

The list is sorted by the top trends from the US and initially shows the top 10 results. If you click one of these, you get details.  It shows a scale of how hot the topic is (from mild to volcanic), the peak of the search and a graph showing date and time of the search. Below the scale you will see news articles, blog posts and the regular results you would see from a normal Google search.

One neat feature is that you can change results to view past trends simply by changing the date on the top left. If you are curious to see what happened on a specific date or on your last birthday, you can do that as well.

I have found the tool very useful and a great way to stay up with current events. Please visit http://www.google.com/trends to get started. You never know what people will be talking about.
