In April, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act and officially recognized September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. We are all encouraged to volunteer today or any day to make the world around us a better place. I recently found a Web site designated to this day with a database of projects, suggestions on things to do and a place to upload your projects and service needs. They also offer a place a donate funds raised if you are not able to perform service.
It is very easy to use. I searched for available projects in my zip code working with children and there were tons of suggestions that popped up. I found everything from a parent’s night out that needs volunteers to opportunities to host an international exchange student. The service ideas section has project suggestions for people interested in working with children, animals, the arts and much more.
So, whether you already have a project planned for this weekend or not, I would suggest checking out www.911dayofservice.org for some ideas to energize your service.
