This "free template" pitch is a joke? I finally found a way to get to the "guide" and it shows that the guide is a PDF. So I try to click on the title line list most web places in order to see the PDF file. Nothing happens. So I'll try clicking on the world "download". Frustration builds. Aha. I got a panel that popped up to ask if I want to actually see the PDF. Maybe that's the way to go. Anyway, good for Kiwanis for providing a template for local clubs. We've tried two approaches to developing our own web site. Although this has been partially successful, it's a colossal investment of volunteer time for a 75-year-old like me. Now I've read the pdf guidelines and have some questions. Does Kiwanis also provide web hosting and content management service as the first paragraph of the guidelines indicate and, if so, at what price? If so, how do we subscribe or connect or get that service? Jaybecker@aol.com 206 790 9457

Creating a club Web site has its challenges - especially if you go the "do-it-yourself" route. Kiwanis International only coordinates hosting services for clubs with a subscription to the club management tool. Those subscribers still have to manage their own content though. Clubs that want to create their own site will need to secure the services of a private Web hosting company. You will still need to manage your content unless you find an additional volunteer or hire someone to assist you with that responsibility. Tom Moriarity has some good suggestions if you scroll down through the thread on this link: http://community.kiwanisone.org/media/p/2685.aspx

This template is really designed for someone who wants to jump start the creative process but is familiar with the basic methods of creating a web site. If, however, this is all Greek to you (or maybe Greek looks less confusing) you may need to either find someone who does understand it to help, or spend some time learning about what it takes to put up a site. This is not a high-tech project, but one which does require someone new to the field to understand some concepts involved. There are other options available for clubs which don't require anyone to learn how to do coding or post web pages. I have included a discussion of these issues on the kiwanis.info site, at http://www.kiwanis.info/wwwsite.htm. If you'd like, see if that's helpful.
