As our first fillable bylaws project, it took a little longer than expected.  But we are trying to post them 'as we speak'!  Regarding the club bylaws changes, two options were added: to give club officers two-year terms and to conduct online electronic balloting. Changes are only necessary if your club wishes to take advantage of either option, but are not necessary for non-opting clubs to adopt.

The new version of the club bylaws is now available with fillable fields and it can be saved to your computer.

Not to nit-pick, but could all the option fields be check marks instead of the mix of check marks and radio buttons we have now.  The radio buttons are a bit of a eye-sore...

Actually, it looks there is an error with the radio buttons.  The radio buttons in Article VII/Section 3, Article XI/Section 1, and Article XIII/Section 1 are all linked together.  So if you choose an option in one section, any options chosen in a previous section are undone.  I'm all for cleverness, but I still prefer the checks

Replying now that I'm logged in :)

Charlie, about the radio buttons in general, they're necessary to keep clubs from accidentally trying to check both/all options within the same Section, which would accidentally invalidate their submitted bylaws.  This saves time for the club by not having to re-do and re-submit the form again.

As to some earlier radio buttons 'un-checking' when you select later ones, this did not come up in initial testing, but does appear to be a problem.  We’ll get it fixed as quickly as possible and re-post a new version.  Thanks for catching this!

I would like to download the Standard Form Club By-laws and find it is not available on this site.  Am I doing something wrong or is it unavailable.     Jane Clingerman

Jane - You are in the right place. You should just be able to click the large, green download button on the top right of the page.

I need to change the wording in a couple of places. Is that possible? Our weekly meetings shall not be more than one (1) hour in lieu of the current wording. There are several other changes, but used that as an example.

Charlie Pikscher wrote re: Form: Club Bylaws (standard form).pdf

I do not believe you can change the wording.  However, you can amend the bylaws to suit your club in Article XXIV (Amendments).  As long as the amendments aren't in direct opposition to KI Bylaws anyhow.  :)

Audrey - The response from Charlie is right on. The wording can't be changed.

I see that the Standard form is dated June of 2008.  Will there be a newly revised standard form for 2009 since the international convention has taken place?

Article XVIII, Section 4 refers to no obligation to pay dues for two years for a former member of a Kiwanis International sponsored program. Is there no age limit? Previous Standard Forms called for that incentive limited to persons under twenty five years of age.

Next question: If the club uses the option for electronic voting, some members may still vote by paper ballot, therefore the vote count would not be known until the Annual Meeting. In the case of the requirement for a second ballot at the Annual Meeting, would only those present  be qualified to vote?

Comment: Section 1 of Article X talks about standing committees. It lists sponsored youth. I thought the proper term is now Service Leadership Programs

Chris Hayworth wrote re: Form: Club Bylaws (standard form).pdf

Originally, there was an age limit of 25 for former sponsored youth members, but the delegates eliminated it a few years ago. If electronic voting is used for club elections and a second ballot is needed, it would be best to allow electronic voting for all ballots, not just the first. Your elections will take longer, but no member will feel they were disenfranchised by the process. The term “sponsored youth” was left to indicate a general category of committee, rather than a specific title. But you correct that Key Club, etc., are now referred to as ‘service leadership programs’ (or SLPs). --Diana O’Brien, Governance Specialist, dobrien@kiwanis.org, 1-800-KIWANIS , ext. 224

I need a copy of my clubs bylaws ASAP! We were not provided a copy from our club builder and he is no longer a part of our club. We need the bylaws to move ahead with a fundraising project that needs to be sent in this week. Can anyone help? K17857, Maple Valley Kiwanis, Mi. amy@j-adgraphics.com. I have left a voicemail with Michigan District but have not heard anything.

David, sorry, but what version of Adobe Reader are you using? Is it possible you need to upgrade to Adobe Reader 9? It's FREE and you can find it here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO Since now it's a fillable form, you might need an upgrade to get it to open properly. I just tried it and it opened without any problem (I'm using Adobe Reader 9 too). Please do let me know if you think there's some other issue and I'll be happy to check into it!

Amy-Jo, your request was forwarded to Member Services back on 3/11 for action - I expect that they were able to provide what you needed.  Please let us know if you need any additional information.
