Lon joined Kiwanis in July 1978 and was elected to their board of directors in 1981. He served as president of the Fremont, NE Kiwanis club 1985-86. Fremont was honored with the Bartlett Top Progress Award under his leadership and that same year his club honored him with a Life Membership in Kiwanis. He served with Governor Jane Erickson as a Distinguish Lt. Gov in 2001-02. He and his wife Wendy have attended six International Conventions, nearly all District Conventions since 1978, and countless other Kiwanis functions over the years representing their club and Division 19. He is a Hixson Fellow and Heritage Society member of Kiwanis Internation Foundation and a Life Member of the NE/IA District Foundation.
He co-chaired the District Growth Committee under Governor Bob Dunaway and is a Certified Kiwanis Trainer leading membership growth programs at both the District, Division, and Club level. He has personally sponsored over 70 Kiwanians and helped build the Wahoo Area and River Valley Kiwanis Clubs. Lon has over 20 years perfect attendance with the Fremont Club and for the past 8 years served as an Outstanding Secretary.
